My scouting journey started in 5th grade when I joined pack 50 as a cub scout. Because of my wonderful experience I continued scouting and became a boy scout in troop 57. I learned outdoor survival skills, first aid, knots, cooking, and emergency procedures, while also having fun and going on different outdoor adventures with fellow scouts. I earned a total of 23 Merit Badges, and was honored to receive the Eagle Scout rank in 2023.
When I first joined scouting, I was shy and quiet, but slowly, I took on took on the responsibilities of Den Chief, Patrol Scribe, Patrol Quartermaster, Troop Webmaster, and Patrol Leader. I participated in various community service projects including Scouting for Food, Baylands Conservation, and Memorial Day Flag Planting. As the patrol leader, I led outdoor campouts, activities, meetings, and guided younger scouts through the ranks.
My Eagle Project involved designing, recruiting, and leading 16 volunteers to build wooden cutouts of native California plants as decorations for Duveneck Elementary School’s garden fence. We also installed flippable windows with fun facts about each plants in order to teach kids about the importance of preserving native plants. Materials and tools were funded by a $500 grant from the school PTA, and the project took a total (all participants) of 191 hours over 3 months.
Throughout my scouting journey, I’ve been fortunate to have many mentors and friends who have supported me. I am deeply grateful to my patrol members, adult leaders, and my parents for their guidance and time, who has shaped me into the confident and cheerful eagle scout I am today.
